What is a QR check-in station and how do you use it?

Print or digitally share you QR code with your volunteers. All volunteers have to do is scan the code and check themselves in for the event on their mobile device.

How to check in with a QR code:

Are your volunteers having trouble checking in via QR code? Here's how to trouble shoot.

 1. Check to see if the event is using a digital or printed pdf version of the QR code

2. Using your camera on your mobile device, scan the QR code. If you have the POINT app, the QR code will take you to the app to check-in. If you don't have the app, it will take you to the web where you will need to sign into POINT to check in for the event.

How QR Code Check-in Works for Volunteers

The QR code allows the volunteer to perform the check-in action directly on their mobile device without needing to touch a shared kiosk.

Scenario 1: Volunteer has the POINT mobile app installed

  1. The volunteer scans the station's QR code.

  2. The QR code automatically redirects the volunteer to the installed POINT mobile app.

  3. The system attempts to execute the check-in.

Conditions for successful Check-in via the app:

    • The volunteer must be logged in to the app using the same account (email) that is linked to their contact record in the organization.

    • The volunteer must be signed up  for today's (or the current) shift of the event whose QR code they scanned.

    • If the event requires a Waiver (release of liability) and the volunteer has not previously agreed to it, the system will require the Waiver to be accepted during the Check-in process.

How to check in with a QR code without the POINT app on mobile device:

  1. The volunteer scans the station's QR code.

  2. The POINT system opens in the volunteer's mobile browser.

*Note: When you scan the QR code, it will show you all the events that you are registered for on that day.
