How can a volunteer troubleshoot QR code self check-in?
Organizations use QR codes to make checking in for your volunteer shifts quick and easy. By scanning the code provided at the event, you can instantly check in and ensure your volunteer hours are tracked accurately in the POINT system.
Depending on your device and settings, scanning the code will either open the POINT App or the POINT Web Platform in your browser.
Requirements for a Successful Check-In
To ensure the QR code works immediately, please make sure you meet the following conditions before you scan:
- Match your Email: You must be logged into POINT (App or Browser) using the same email address you used to sign up for the event.
-
You must be "Signed Up": You can only check in if you have a confirmed registration for the event. If your status is "Pending," you cannot check in.
-
It must be today's date: Check-in is only available on the actual day of the event.
-
Missing Requirements: If you did not sign a waiver or answer required questions during registration, the system will ask you to complete these steps before your check-in is finalized.
How to Check In (App vs. Web)
Option 1: Using the POINT App (Recommended for iOS)
If you have the POINT App installed, scanning the QR code should automatically open the app to the check-in screen.
For the best experience:
-
Update your App: Ensure you are using the latest version of the app. We have a free mobile app that you can download on the App Store and Google Play
-
Log in beforehand: Open the app and ensure you are logged in before you arrive.
Option 2: Using the Web Version (Browser)
If you do not have the app, scanning the code will open a web page in your mobile browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.).
-
The "Double Scan" Method: If you are not logged in when you scan the code, you will be asked to log in first. Once you have successfully logged in, scan the QR code a second time to trigger the actual check-in.
