What does each background check status mean?

Here's a guide to help nonprofit admins interpret each background check status sent from Checkr to POINT.

Background Check Status Types:

Status Type:                            Meaning:

Status (8)The volunteer has been sent an email to complete the background check from Checkr. Checkr needs the volunteer to submit information for the background check to be processed.

Status (9)The volunteer's invite to complete the check has expired. (Invitations expire after 7 days.) To resend an invite, go to People> Background Checks> and select "Request New Check".

Status (10)The volunteer has submitted their information and Checkr is currently running this background check. An estimated completion date will be displayed in POINT when available.

Status (11)Checkr has completed running the background check and is ready for review. The link to the volunteers report will be listed next to this status.  To view the report, login to Checkr.

  • Clear. This means that there are no items on the report that need review and the candidate can progress.
  • Under Review. This requires an admin to view the report and review. Once they review the report and update its status, the Checkr webhook should re-categorize this background check as Complete-Clear or Ineligible, and POINT should reflect that PBC status.
  • Ineligible. This means that the organization has gone through the full adjudication process with the volunteer and let them know they’re ineligible.
  • Expired. If we hit the POINT background check expiration date without an updated background check, this becomes the PBC status of their background check.

Status (12)The volunteer has contacted Checkr to dispute information in the completed report. To view details, login to Checkr

Status (13)The volunteer's background check report stopped processing, more information is needed for this background check. Volunteers need to login to Checkr: to provide the requested additional information.

Status (14)The volunteer's background check screening was canceled. To view details, login to Checkr:

Note: Completed does not mean a volunteer has "passed" a background check screening. "Completed" simply means that the screening process has been completed. If a check has been completed, the nonprofit which requested the check must approve the volunteer for an opportunity or event. POINT does not store reports or results of background checks.

Note: Background Check reports or results are not stored in POINT. Only the Nonprofit which requested the check and yourself have access to the background check report.
