How to send a text message to a volunteer?

Sending a text message to a volunteer is a great way to communicate important updates and reminders. Here’s a guide on how to send a text message directly from your admin dashboard.

Prerequisites

Before sending a message, please ensure that the following conditions are met:

  • Sufficient Text Credits: Your organization must have enough Text Credits available. You can find out how to purchase more credits  here.

  • Verified Phone Number: The contact you wish to message must have a verified phone number and be subscribed to receive messages from your organization. You can check a contact's status on their profile page. Look for a Texting Status of “Subscribed.”

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Navigate to the Texting Page:

    • From the admin menu, find “Messages” and select “Send Text.”

    • On the Texting page, two actions will be available: Send Text and Manage Texting by Contact.

  2. Select a Volunteer:

    • Click "Send Text", and the “Send Text Message” pop-up will appear. In the search bar, you will only see contacts who are eligible to receive a text message.

    • Select the contact you want to message. 

  3. Compose and Send:

    • In the Message field, type your message. Keep in mind that one Texting Credit covers one 160-character text message.

    • Once you're ready, click “Send.”

The message will be sent to the volunteer’s phone number.

Viewing Your Message History

After you send your first message, the main Texting page will automatically change to display a history of all messages sent by your organization. This allows all admins to see a clear record of which messages were sent and to whom.

To send a message from this page, click the “Send New” button, then follow the prompts to select contacts and compose your message.

Alternative Ways to Send Messages

In addition to the main Texting page, you can also send messages directly from a contact’s profile or from the contact list.

To send a message from a contact’s profile, first ensure the contact has a verified phone number and is subscribed to receive messages.
1. Navigate to the contact page and locate the “Actions” button in the upper-right corner.
2. Click “Actions,” then select “Send Text.”
3. A pop-up window will appear showing the selected contact. Enter your message in the provided field and click “Send.”

This process will deliver your message directly to the contact’s verified phone number.
