How to Create a Custom Form Field?

Custom form fields allow you to add unique, tailored questions to your events and applications. This gives you the flexibility to collect specific information from volunteers that is relevant to your organization's needs.

Once a custom field is created and added to a form, any changes you make to the field will automatically update wherever it is used.

Standard vs. Custom Form Fields

Our system includes a set of standard questions that are foundational and cannot be deleted. These include:

  • Address

  • Birthdate

  • Dietary restrictions/allergies

  • Emergency Contact

  • Gender

  • Language Skills

  • Meal preference

  • Phone Number

  • T-Shirt Size

You can create custom fields to supplement these standard questions with your own.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Navigate to the Form Fields Page:

    • To view your full list of standard and custom questions, go to the Admin Menu.

    • Select "Organization", then navigate to "Form Fields."

  2. Create a New Custom Field:

    • On the Form Fields page, click the orange "+ Add Custom Field" button in the upper-right corner.

    • A pop-up window will appear where you can configure your new question.

  3. Configure the New Field:

    • Field Name: This is an internal name for the field that is accessible only to administrators. Use this to help you easily identify the field's purpose.

    • Question Label: This is the question that volunteers will see and be asked to answer (e.g., when filling out an application or signing up for an event).

    • Select Answer Field Type: Choose the format for the volunteer's response. The following options are available:

      • Text Field: For short, free-form text answers.

      • Date: For a date input.

      • Single Select: For a single choice from a list of options.

      • Multi Select: For multiple choices from a list of options.

      • Contact Field: For capturing specific contact information (e.g., First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone).

  4. Save Your Changes:

    • After filling in the required information, click the "Save" button. Your new custom field is now created and ready to be used in your events and applications.
