Understanding General vs. Program-Level Applications
With our updated Applications feature, you no longer have to rely on a single, one-size-fits-all form. You can now create a General Application for standard onboarding, alongside multiple Program-Level Applications for specific volunteer roles.
1. The General Application
Think of the General Application as the main entry point to your organization. It is the primary application volunteers must complete to join your organization and access your standard events.
Where does it appear? Once you publish a General Application, the "Apply" button will automatically appear in several places:
-
Your public Organization page on POINT.
-
Your Website Widget (Volunteer Signup Button).
-
The Volunteer View of your organization page.
-
When a volunteer attempts to sign up for an event. (Note: You can override this at the event level if a specific event requires a different application or no application at all).
How does it affect volunteers?
-
New Volunteers: Must complete this application before joining the organization.
-
Existing Volunteers: Their requirement depends on their Application Status. Volunteers who are marked as Approved or Waived can freely join the org and sign up for events without filling out the form again.
-
Applicant List: The applicant list for the General Application will include all contacts within your organization.
2. Program-Level Applications
Program-Level Applications are specialized forms tied to specific Programs within your organization. You can create as many Program-Level Applications as you need.
How do they work?
-
Visibility: The "Apply" button for these applications will appear specifically on the associated Program's page. Additionally, any events linked to that program will require volunteers to complete this application before signing up.
-
Assignment Rules: One Program can only have one Application attached to it. However, you can attach the same Application to multiple different programs.
-
Applicant List: Unlike the General Application, the applicant list for a Program-Level Application will only show volunteers who are applying for or are associated with that specific program.
Application Pre-Requisites (Advanced Setup) For Program-Level Applications, you have access to a special setting called Application Pre-Requisites. This allows you to build an onboarding "chain."
-
Example: You can require a volunteer to be approved for your General Application before they are allowed to start the Program-Level Application.
