Why do some volunteer profiles have missing names or strange email addresses?
When volunteers create their POINT accounts using third-party login methods like Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, our system is bound by the privacy settings and data provided by those specific platforms. Here is why you might see unusual names or emails on some contact profiles:
1. Accounts Created via Apple ID (@privaterelay.appleid.com)
When a user signs up using Apple, Apple’s security system offers them a privacy feature called "Hide My Email." * What happens: If the volunteer chooses to keep their email private, Apple generates a unique, random email address ending in @privaterelay.appleid.com and hides their real personal information.
-
Why it looks like this: Because Apple only shares this generated email address with POINT (and restricts their actual name), our system automatically uses this
@privaterelayemail to fill in the "First Name" field so the account can be created. -
Will they still get emails? Yes! This generated email is securely linked to the volunteer's real Apple ID email. Any messages or notifications you send through POINT will successfully route to their actual inbox.
2. Accounts Created via Google
When a volunteer signs up using their Google account, our system relies exclusively on the profile information that Google sends us.
-
What happens: Some people set up their personal Google accounts using only a nickname, a single username (like Albahilalop), or without entering a formal last name.
-
Why it looks like this: Because POINT imports exactly what Google provides, an account can be created in our system without a last name or with an unconventional first name.
Can this be fixed? Yes! While this is the default data pulled during their initial sign-up, the volunteer can always log into their POINT app or web portal, go to their profile settings, and manually update their First and Last name to reflect their real identity.
